Step 1: Mirror and Match

“Sales isn’t about being slick. It’s about reading the room.”

Listen for the emotional tone of the conversation, then adjust your pace, language, and energy to match your buyer. If they’re cautious, slow down and reassure. If they’re excited, build on it. People trust people who “get” them. Familiarity breeds trust, this is how you connect with them. This is truly important in sales. It's a core strategy that you should adopt.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I speaking their language?

  • Does my tone reflect how they’re feeling?

  • Have I validated their priorities and concerns?

Step 2: Project Certainty

“Certainty is the psychological glue that keeps the dominoes falling in your favor.”

Buyers often feel uncertainty about change — your job is to instill confidence. Show up prepared, speak with conviction, and use proof points (like case studies and results) to remove doubt.

No body likes the unknown, it causes stress and anxiety, your job is to guide the prospect by transferring your belief through conviction and certainty.

Ask yourself:

  • Do I sound like I believe more in their success than they do?

  • Have I made the path forward clear and safe?

  • Have I removed risks in their mind?

Step 3: Listen for Hidden Cues

“The best salespeople are emotional detectives — they pick up on the subtle cues that others miss, and adjust in real time.”

Pay attention to what isn’t said - the hesitations, the pauses, the body language, even the language they avoid. These cues tell you where the real objections and opportunities lie.

Ask yourself:

  • What emotions are driving their behavior right now?

  • What are they afraid of?

  • What would make them feel understood and supported?

Step 4: Familiarity creates trust

To improve the probability that people will seek you out you must be authentic, familiar and known.

People need to what you stand for and your consistency and commitment to putting out content, to demonstrating how you act under pressure and in different situations is was causes people to lean in. It's this repeated exposure to you that creates a level of familiarity that invites the customer to seek you out.
