I’m excited to share that I recently joined the team at ASBN as a guest on The Small Business Show, where we dug into how entrepreneurs can intentionally build momentum and land their first client in 90 days or less.
In our conversation, I stressed a truth I’ve lived and taught: success doesn’t happen by accident — it’s engineered.
Here are a few key take-aways from the episode:
Momentum is the game-changer.The first sale is your domino. It sets in motion everything that follows. Once you land that first client, you can use it strategically to unlock growth, credibility and more opportunities.
Reduce friction in the first interaction.I highlighted how entrepreneurs often lose deals not because their product or service is weak — but because the first contact is awkward, over-complicated, or lacks authenticity. Simplify your language. Speak human. Build trust fast.
“9 before 9am.”One of the actionable strategies we discussed: make nine qualified outreach touches before 9 a.m. each day (calls, video messages, LinkedIn, etc.). This volume + discipline creates consistent openings and builds your personal sales cycle.
Emotional intelligence beats automation.Even in an AI-driven world, machines cannot replicate human vulnerability, conviction and composure. I outlined the four trust elements every entrepreneur must master: Humanity, Transparency, Reliability & Capability.
Execution > ideas. You may have the blueprint, but without action the wheels won’t turn. I encouraged business owners to push through the Chapter-by-Chapter “domino challenges” within my book The First Domino: How to Land Your First Client in 90 Days or Under and use those as a playbook rather than a nice idea to bookmark.
What this means for you:If you’re an entrepreneur who’s been waiting for “the right moment” — stop waiting. Start building. You don’t need a perfect product, an elite network or a big budget. You need consistent action, simple outreach, and the mindset that your first client is the catalyst.
Next step:If you’d like the tools I share (scripts, weekly planning templates, outreach tracker) and want to build momentum this quarter, let’s connect. I’ll walk you through how to apply the frame I used to land my early wins—and how you can replicate that for your book launch, service offering, or business pivot.
Here’s to turning your first client into your first domino.
